A little while back I bought myself a ‘new’ old camera. I got a Mamiya 645, and so far I have put two rolls of black and white film in it, and currently have a roll of colour in it. I got my first shots back from the lab today, after a bit of a delay because of a postcode typo. There isn’t really any theme or storyline running through these photos, as they are just me getting to grips with my new camera. Photos of Lori, photos of Dexter, photos around Kells, Ballycastle and the top of Slieve Donard.

Impossible Polaroids

I used to shoot a lot of Polaroid. I have an old Polaroid SX-70 camera. Unfortunately with the decline of the polaroid brand the film has become really difficult to get a hold of. There are a group of people though who have started making the film again. The Impossible project is making experimental film for Polaroid cameras. This is great, because I can now use my SX-70 again, but because the film is experimental, it can be difficult to use, but I am embracing the imperfections, and just enjoying being able to use the camera.

VSCO Cam

Recently I have started using the VSCO filters for Lightroom. They are great and I really love them, so when VSCO announced yesterday that they have a new iPhone camera app, I went right away and downloaded it. I spent some time using it today, and I love it, it is really really excellent. I went for a walk in Holywood (County Down, not SoCal) and took the photos below. I haven’t used it in conjunction with other apps yet, like Snapseed and Filterstorm, but I reckon I won’t grow tired quickly. I’m not going to be running out and shooting a wedding on my iPhone anytime soon though.

Donard

On Saturday, myself and a couple of friends headed up Slieve Donard. I had never climbed it before, so it was a first for me. The weather was pretty good, and the view from the top was great. I managed to get a couple of nice photos during the climb, including a couple of panoramic photos. As always, these photos are available to buy as prints. Contact me for more info…

News about the InstaBooth

For the past year I have been running my photo booth service, the InstaBooth. It has been brilliant at the events that I have had it at, the guests loved it, and loved getting the prints of their photos then and there. However, there are a number of photo booth services available at the moment, and nearly every photographer offers some kind of photo booth. Unfortunately this means that the InstaBooth isn’t viable for me to continue. Unfortunately I don’t have the available resources to compete with the dedicated photo booth services, but on the other hand can’t match the low cost of photographers photo booths.

Another reason I have decided to stop the InstaBooth service, is that I am first and foremost a photographer. I love photographing weddings, newborns, familys, whatever comes my way really. The InstaBooth has been a distraction from what my real passion and focus for photography is (pardon the pun).

Thanks to those of you who I have had the pleasure of providing the InstaBooth for, and if you are looking for Photo Booth hire so feel free to get in touch and I can point you in the right direction. Happy St. Patricks Day

I read St. Patrick’s confession this morning and I would definitely recommend reading it, to see what St. Patrick was really all about. I might go climb Slemish this afternoon before sitting down to watch Ireland beat England in the Six Nations. I hope you all have a great St. Patricks day whatever you get up to.

Ballycastle

My wife and I love getting up to the North coast. It is one of our favourite places to visit, and spend time. On Sunday past we headed up with the dog and a couple of friends to get some fresh air, and it was a beautiful afternoon. It was freezing cold, and I had lost all feeling in my fingers by the time we climed back into the car, but it’s worth it for some og the photos I got. There are a couple of the photos I couldn’t decide whther they looked better in black and white, or in colour, so did them in both. I would love to know which you prefer, and which of the photos is your favourite. I think my favourite photo is the last one.

Sethway

I enjoy doing band shoots, and although they don’t necessarily follow the same style as my portrait sessions normally would. They give me the opportunity to try our different lighting techniques that wouldn’t work as well with a portrait session.

Sethway have just signed with Fersk Management, and are in the studio at the moment, so needed some photos for their promotional material
